The Factors Included in Determining The Eligibility Points

The minimum 65 points, which a PR applicant requires, are below the maximum points one can obtain.

The First Criteria are Age: Maximum points are 30. Please note that applicants aged equal to or over 45 cannot apply via the SkillSelect program.

• 18-24 years: 25.
• 25-32 years: 30.
• 33-39 years: 25.
• 40-44 years: 15.

The second criteria are English proficiency: Maximum points are 20.

Superior (8 or more in each band): 20. 

Proficient (7 or more in each band): 10.

Competent (6 or more in each band): 0.

The third criteria are employment outside Australia: Maximum points are 15. Finally, the applicant’s skill must be there in any skilled occupation lists.

• Work experience under three years: 0. 
• 3-4 years: 5.
• 5-7 years: 10.
• 8-10 years: 15.

The fourth one is employment in Australia: Maximum Points are 20.

• Master’s by Research/Doctorate from an Australian university with two years academic in the relevant sector: 5. 

The eighth criteria are partner skills: Maximum points are 10. Please note that the applicants’ partners or spouses must also have applied for the visa and meet the age, talent, and English criteria to obtain these points. Applicants can also get additional points, as explained below.

The SkillSelect rounds in 2021 saw the score criteria rise to 90 points, especially for the Subclass 189 Visa. While a 65 points score is enough, one should not assume it as the best score and score more points.
